Post by Paul AndersonPost by GraceThe MP101 skips or freezes up while playing music streamed from
Rhapsody and from radio stations via vTuner. I have all the latest
software and firmware upgrades. Netgear's outsourced tech support has
thrown up its hands. I'm running it on a wireless system using a
Netgear MR814 and SBC DSL service. Any help deeply appreciated.
I have what sounds like the same problem. I have a D-link 614+
router and RoadRunner cable. When I play something through
Rhapsody, it plays for a short while (usually 15-20 seconds,
sometimes 2-3 minutes), and then freezes. Sometimes it doesn't
even get that far - it allows me to browse to an album, but then
refuses to show any of the tracks within it. It often recognizes
failure and tries to reconnect, but that has never worked
properly.
I have not noticed any problem with the radio, but then I have
never used it for any significant amount of time.
As of 9/25/04 I had all the software and firmware upgrades.
It works flawlessly using just the netgear server.
I like this device a lot, and I really hope that this
Rhapsody problem gets fixed somehow.
I am planning to experiment with location and with the
ethernet port. Have you tried this?
Here's what I found after experimenting with the location:
When the MP101 is next to the wireless router, Rhapsody
works perfectly.
Normally the router is in the basement and the MP101 is on
the first floor. There is approximately 30 feet of distance
between them. At this point the link status reports a signal
strength that ranges between 2db and 26db.
If I move the MP101 closer, so that it is about 12 feet away
from the router, but still on the first floor, I get a signal
strength that ranges between 25db and 45db.
I am guessing that the problem is that the signal strength
is too low for the router to maintain a decent connection
and that the Rhapsody server simply gives up. The netgear
server however must be more tolerant of the signal strength
variations.
My plan now is to relocate the wireless router to get a better
signal. If this doesn't solve the problem, I will either look
into a signal booster or a repeater.
